Acne Tarda, also known as adult acne, is a form of acne that occurs in people over the age of 25. Unlike acne vulgarus, Acne Tarda is often more persistent and mainly affects the lower half of the face, such as the jawline, chin, and neck.
While approximately 80% of acne cases occurring in adulthood are persistent from teenage years, around 20% are described as 'late-onset' disease, appearing for the first time in adulthood. The disease can be triggered by hormonal changes (including a change from one contraceptive to another), or it can be induced by certain non-hormonal medications, emotional stress, and various underlying diseases such as polycystic ovary syndrome.
The disease is more common in women and the clinical features are quite specific: inflammatory acne in the lower facial region or macrocomedones (microcysts) spread over the face. Macrocomedones are more than 1mm in diameter and look like white or skin coloured bumps that are just under the skin. One can slightly stretch the skin to see the macrocomedone; a white bump under the surface of the skin.

In the old days, although still very effective, one would use a microscope slide( a thin, flat piece of glass), and gently press it on the skin to see and locate the white bumps.
Azelaic Acid has profound anti-inflammatory, antioxidative effects, and is bactericidal against a range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive microorganisms as well, including antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains.
This peel is indicated for:

Protocol:
This treatment is to be performed every 14 days and is recommended to do in a series of 6 treatments.
1. Elevate client head. Do not have client lay flat.
2. Cleanse skin.
3. Degrease skin with Chemical Peel Prep Solution
4. Shake peel bottle gently. Apply Sal-Aza Peel with cotton gauze. Wipe over skin in even layer.
5. Wait 2-3 minutes between each layer application.
6. Layers applied: 2 to 6.
Note: gradually increase the number of layers applied with each treatment.
7. Do not neutralize or rinse. Do not apply any product after final layer of peel is applied.
8. Allow peel to remain on skin for 6-8 hours or overnight. Skin can be gently cleansed in the morning.
